Send and receive large files with FileSender

Updated Jul 21, 2021

Do you need to send a file that is too large to be sent as an attachment? Or should someone send you a large file? Then FileSender can be the solution.

FileSender is developed by DeiC in a collaboration between a number of countries' research networks, specifically to support the needs of universities and research institutions. FileSender requires that either the sender or recipient be associated with an institution that uses WAYF.

UCL uses WAYF so that all UCL staff and students can use FileSender. Read more about FileSender here.

Send large files

Gå to https://filesender.deic.dk/filesender/ and click Login.

Choose UCL Erhvervsakademi og Professionshøjskole.

Enter username and password (same as for UCL's network and itslearning)..

Click OK.

When you are logged in, you end up on the Upload tab by default

Enter recipient address (es) in the To field

Udfyld emnefeltet (Subject) og tekstfeltet (Message).

If the file is to be sent encrypted, check "File Encryption". It allows you to specify a password that the recipient will need to open the file. Of course, this password must not be entered in the Message field, but must be provided to the recipient in another way.

Select the file (s) you want to send by clicking Select files..

Select Expiry date. Recipient must download the file before this date. The file is automatically deleted in FileSender on that specific date. The date can not be set further in time than 2 weeks.

Check or uncheck any settings you want.

Click Send to send.

When this message is displayed, the message and the file are sent.

FileSender can now be closed.

The recipient will receive an email with the content sent via FileSender. The e-mail contains a link that the recipient must click on to download the file (s).

When the recipient clicks on the link, FileSender opens with a download page, where you can also see the content of the e-mail.

Click Download to download the file(s).

Receive large files from user without WAYF

If someone needs to send you a large file and they are not affiliated with an institution that uses WAYF, this can be done by issuing a Guest Voucher.

Log in to Filesender as shown above and select the Guests tab.

Enter recipient address(es) in the To field.

Fill in the subject field (Subject) and the text field (Message).

Select Expiry date. Recipient must use the voucher before this date. The date can not be set further in time than 2 weeks.

Check or uncheck any settings you want.

Click Send Voucher to send.

When this message is displayed, the voucher is sent.

At the bottom of the window you can see which vouchers you have sent. Here is the option to delete the voucher or send a reminder to the recipient.

The recipient will receive an email with a link to the voucher. When the recipient clicks on the link, FileSender opens and the file can be sent following the same procedure as described above.
